Here at White River Press, we want you to understand and
participate in the whole exciting process of bringing your reprint
or new work into print. The degree of your participation is up to
you. You may notice, though, that throughout this list of
questions the answer often includes the phrase, ‘it depends’. There
are myriad questions and decisions involved in every published book,
and one preference may influence others. We want to work with you to
find the right solution for you.
Here are some of our most frequently asked questions.
How long does it take to reprint a book with White River
Press?
This depends on several factors: how quickly you want to see
your book in print, and how involved you want to be in its
production.
We can have books for you within six weeks. Or, it can take
up to a year. We have options for both…and choices in between,
too.
I want to write a new introduction to my reprinted book. Can I
do that?
Absolutely. You can add or change pages at the
beginning and/or end of your book in a straight reprint. In fact, we
urge you to do this to help distinguish this new edition from
previous editions.
If I want to publish a new book, can I do that with White
River Press?
We publish a limited number of new works with experienced
authors. We'd be glad to talk with you about this.
Will my new book be edited?
In order to guarantee quality standards, White River Press
requires all its new books to be professionally edited. We work
with a number of professional editors, and will be glad to
establish a connection between you and an appropriate editor.
How long will it take to publish my new book?
The circumstances of every new book are different. We can
have your new book published in as little as 6 weeks – or as
long as a year – from the time we receive your complete and
edited manuscript.
Do I have input on the cover of my White River Press book?
Yes, as much (or as little) as you want. Call us for details.
Can I publish a new or reprinted book with color illustrations
or photography?
Yes. Our printer has the latest technology and can print a
book with color. The results are terrific, by the way.
What will my new or reprinted book look like when it’s
printed?
Here at White River Press, we incorporate the latest in print
technology with professional editing and production so that your
finished books are guaranteed to meet all of the professional
standards in the publishing industry. It will look like any
professionally published book you see in any bookstore.
Will my new or reprinted book be registered with the Library
of Congress?
Yes, as long as it meets the criteria set by the Library of
Congress.
How can I buy my new or reprinted book?
You may order copies of your book at 50% of the retail price.
Actual freight and a small handling charge are added to each
order. These copies are not subject to royalties.
Will my new or reprinted book have an ISBN number?
Absolutely. Every book published by White River Press is
identified by its own unique ISBN.
Who will own the copyright to my book?
When you publish with White River Press, you retain the
copyright to your book. Our contract with you is an agreement
for the right to publish your book in the English language, not
ownership of your copyright.
What will the retail price of my new or reprinted book be?
At White River Press, we work with you to set a reasonable
retail price for your book that covers its manufacturing costs
and ensures royalties for you.
Will my new or reprinted book be available through bookstores?
Yes, every White River Press book can be ordered through
local bookstores at full trade discount.
Will my book be available through Amazon.com?
Yes, every White River Press book is available through
Amazon.com as well as other online retailers.
Do you charge to publish books?
We do not charge to publish books. However, you will need to
bring us a manuscript that is edited and copyedited, and you
will be responsible for the final proofreading of your
manuscript. Any other charges are optional, and will depend on
your timeline for publication.
What are your submission guidelines?
We would like to see your manuscript or copy of the
out-of-print book along with a short (2-3 page) marketing plan.

What is the royalty rate and how often do you pay royalties?
We pay a royalty rate is 50% of net—one of the highest rates
paid in the publishing industry. We pay royalties on a quarterly
basis.
Do you publish anything other than books?
Yes, we do private label full color brochure publishing for
businesses and individuals and have several programs available.
